About Sean Gaughran
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Hi, I’m Sean
As a licensed clinical psychologist in the Rochester area, I’m passionate about helping adults build lives that feel grounded, purposeful, and aligned with their values. My training includes a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University, a predoctoral internship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Genesee Valley Psychology specializing in providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Exposure & Ritual Prevention (ERP).
I work with adults primarily struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, and difficulties managing emotions or navigating relationships and life transitions. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), and psychodynamic therapy to provide treatment that is both practical and reflective. My goal is to support clients in building insight, strengthening coping skills, and creating meaningful change. I am trans-affirming and LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and finding the right fit matters. I strive to create a warm, collaborative, and culturally affirming space where your experiences are understood and respected. You don’t have to work through things alone—if you’re interested in exploring whether we might be a good match, I invite you to contact me to schedule a consultation.
